We have access to more information and technological wizardry and greater vehicles for communication, transportation, and entertainment than would have been dreamed possible only a few decades ago.  Nothing in the history of the planet even approximates the things we regard as routine.  Yet a good case can be made that there has never been such a wholesale disregard for the practice and propegation of wisdom as there is in our increasingly secularized civilization.  Few people think at all about the larger issues of life, but instead flow along without resistance with the current of a culture that promotes the money, sex, and power of “the good life” while virtually ignoring the real questions of the meaning and purpose of it all.  As Peter Kreeft put it, “When ultimate ends disappear, toys remain.”
